Even though I’m a pretty emotional person in my daily life, it takes a lot to make me cry when watching a movie or TV show. And I’m not talking about tearing up a little bit. I’m talking those big crocodile tears that just won’t stop. For some reason it takes a little more than usual to make me cry. (Then again, it might be because I avoid sappy movies like the plague but that’s another story for another day.)
Obviously I have to warn you that there are spoilers in this post. If you’re up on pop culture, then you should probably know most of these but ya know… gotta cover the bases.
1. The Office – Pam and Jim’s Wedding
The whole “Niagara” episode, both parts I and II, had me tearing up from beginning to end. I don’t know if it was because I was in the process of planning my own wedding at the time or what, but I was bawling from the “mental picture” conversation in the car on the way to Niagara Falls to Jim’s rehearsal dinner speech to the dance down the aisle. Obviously I’ve always compared me and Nick to Pam and Jim, so maybe I was living vicariously through these two? Either way, it felt like watching two of my best friends get married.
2. Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows: Part One
Having been a Harry Potter fan for nearly eight years, the series ending was pretty devastating for me. When the next to last movie came it, it wasn’t like I didn’t know what was coming. I mean, the book had been out for what, four years at that point? But when that poor little house elf closes his eyes for the last time, I was done. DONE.
3. How I Met Your Mother finale
If you’ve been around a while, you know how I feel about the finale: basically like everyone else who ever cared about the dang show. The finale was extremely disappointing in so many ways, most of which I outlined here. So while the rest of the list may have been happy/sad cries, this cry was an “I’m-angry-how-could-you-have-wasted-my-entire-life-I-hate-you” cry. There may have been an emergency fro-yo run afterwards. And I may have had stray tears while piling on the toppings…
5. The Office finale
Like I mentioned above, I watched The Office for about eight years before the show ended. It felt like the characters had become close friends and to know that I would never be able to peek into their lives again was so, so sad. (I even wrote a post the day that the show ended to share my feelings.)
But when Andy broke out the line in the gif above? Totally made me reflect on how I felt (and still somewhat feel) about college…. and now I’m going to need to stop talking about this so I don’t start crying.
