That Time My Life Took a Turn

September 10, 2013

Tuesday, September 10: Describe a distinct moment when your life took a turn.

About an hour before my life took a turn.
Being silly as per usual.

On September 10, 2010, my life took a turn. A few weeks prior, a couple of our friends found a litter of kittens outside their home. They decided to take them in and to try to find homes for them. As soon as I heard about the kittens, that’s all I could focus on. I wanted one. When I get my mind set on something, it’s really hard to convince me otherwise.

Our friend uploaded photos of the kittens and immediately I knew which one I wanted. The white chest and paws and blue eyes just struck my soul, and I knew I had to have her.

I just begged and begged Nick to let us get the kitten. By this point we had been living together for two years and I really wanted a pet. Nick flat out said no…. to me, that is. He went behind my back and got everything set up, so that when I arrived home after a sorority event that night, I was surprised with a tiny, 13 oz. kitten sitting inside my hat.

I immediately fell with love this this tiny, furry creature sitting in
front of me. I wanted to love and protect her in any way possible. The first night with her was absolutely brutal. I got no sleep and wanted to make sure that she was okay the entire night.

Over the next few day, she slept on me the entire day. It took a few days for us to choose a name, so the nickname “Baby Girl” stuck and it continues to be her nickname today. We eventually decided on the name, Susie.

Today, Susie is a sassy three-year-old cat with much attitude and personality. She is the most talkative cat I’ve ever heard in my life and she loves to drink water from the sink. She hops from whatever she can to the top of doors and stalks you like her prey. She loves to nap on top of the couch and in her crate, and is an outstanding big sister to Anabelle.

Do you remember your first pet?
