Hey yall, I’m Meg! I blog my little heart out over at Sweetly Complicated! I’m taking over for Whit while she’s away! So lets get down to business (please, oh PLEASE tell me someone completed that statement with “to defeat the huns.”)
Remember the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”? Remember how we all thought the dad was slightly insane but endearingly charming for thinking the remedy for EVERYTHING was windex. OK good. Glad you remember that and will keep that in mind (the slightly insane but endearingly charming part) when I tell you that the ACTUAL remedy for everything is epsom salt. Yall, I am obsessed with this stuff It is my favorite beauty product OF ALL TIME… and you gotta be pretty darn good to knock Urban Decay’s Naked pallet off the throne!
Today I am going to share my top 4 beauty uses for Epsom salt! So put away your windex and prepare to be amazed by these amazing white crystals, not to be confused with those other amazing white crystals…sugar :)
1. Hair: Going all Bridget Bardot.
Adding a tablespoon of epsom salt to your conditioner can really pump up the volume on limp, lifeless hair. I combine the epsom salt with my normal amount of conditioner and let it sit for a good 10 mins before I rinse. Even on “oh crap I woke up late and dry shampoo ain’t gonna cut it” mornings I can still feel a noticeable difference in the volume if I don’t have 10 mins to spare! So whether it is a full 10 minute soak or a quick scrub the salt will soak up excess oil and leave you with some major umph in your locks!
2. Skin: Glow baby GLOW.
Unfortunately I have not been gifted porcelain skin (curse word). I have fought with my skins since I was in the 6th grade (thank you boy in my 6th grade English class for pointing my first zit out in front of the whole class, a true kodak moment). I add a pinch or two too my nightly cleanser three times a week. The salt crystals themselves are abrasive enough to get the job done with out ripping your face off (a real plus in my book). I use the epsom salt at night in order to let the magic of soaking up oil to really occur with out the interference of any make up.
3. Skin: Oh Hey Dollface.
I am a true believer (yep, totally wrote belieBer at first #middleschoolteacher) in a weekly face mask. Adding epsom salt has just intensified that message!
Meg’s Go To Mask:
1/2 teaspoon of espom salt
1 1/2 teaspoon of mayonaise
1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice
**some people add grated carrot, normally they aren’t hanging out in my fridge so they are a no go in my mask.
Mix ingredients together and spread on pre-dampend face, wait 10 minutes (prime time for some scaring of significant others or children), rinse off.
MIRACLE I TELL YA. MIRACLE.
4. Body: Frankie says RELAX.
An epsom salt soak bath is one of MY FAVORITE THINGS (please read that like Oprah would say it, thanks). I keep a mason jar full of the stuff on the side of my tub (for the hair treatment too) and adding a cup or so to my bath, especially after a hard day, that can perk me right up. The salts have all these magical powers that help regulate stress levels in your body, and we all know that less stress= looking our best! Sometimes I even mix my magic crystals with some Eucalyptus essential oil or lavender essential oil if I really need to kick it up a notch!
Well I hope I have successfully indoctrinated you into my Epsom Salt cult, the t-shirts come in on Friday! Also, I would like to apologize for all the ridiculous pop culture references– I have watched Gilmore Girls non-stop since I went on vacation. If an apology wasn’t necessary than please, feel free to stop on by, I promise to make Lorelei and Rory proud.
