That Time I Told the Story of my Life

May 1, 2013

Prompt: Tell the story of your life in 250 words or less.

I consider myself a child of the 80s even though I only spent 5 months of my life actually in the decade. I grew up in a small mill town in South Carolina, but when I was 11, we moved to a bigger house across the county. High school was what felt like the real beginning of my life, moving past nearly a decade of teasing and bad self-esteem. I was a cheerleader and involved in almost every club available. College wasn’t any different. I found the place that I was meant to be at Winthrop University with Delta Zeta. College brought many self-revelations, including changing my career path multiple times. I was lucky enough to find the love of my life when I was only 18 and married him just a week before my 22nd birthday. Only three weeks after we returned from our Disney honeymoon, he left our home to start a life in Texas while I finished up my degree. We lived apart for five difficult months. Once I graduated, I joined him in Houston and we began our lives as husband and wife. After two different jobs in 7 months, I found my dream job and absolutely love going into work every day. My hubby Nick and our fur babies Anabelle and Susie keep our life in our little apartment pretty interesting. We don’t know what the future will bring, but we’re excited to find out.
