“Pourquois Pas”

August 14, 2011

When deciding what kind of blog I wanted to have, I consulted a good friend and sorority sister of mine to whom I greatly admire. This woman has graduated from a university, lived in France, traveled all over the world, and is now living the dream in the Big Apple. I asked her how I should decide on a direction for my blog. She explained to me that while I had all of these great ideas, it was best to stick to one so that I could have a special niche in that topic.

When it comes to topics that I consider myself somewhat versed in, the range isn’t extensive. I try to keep up with politics, but most of it just makes me angry. I love music, but I’m not exactly Miss Music Critic. Fashion, well, I would be fine with just wearing jeans and sorority t-shirts every day. One thing I do consider myself pretty knowledgeable about is simple: southern life. I mean, I’ve seen it every single day of my life for the past 22 years. I’ve even dreamed about starting a magazine one day about everything from sweet tea to boiled peanuts to Charleston to porch swings. So I’d love to share with you my experiences and findings about southern life, if you’ll join me on the journey.

I want to leave you with one last thought. While catching up with this woman that I described at the beginning, I told her about my plans to move to Houston, Texas, in December and she asked what was it that was taking me there. (I told her about my husband and his plans for a graduate program there.) But more importantly, she told me her motto “Pourquois Pas” which means “why not” in French. So, Jessica, pourquois pas? Let’s see where this blog takes us.

P.S. Check out Jessica’s blog at http://livingembellished.blogspot.com/. I promise that you won’t regret it!

I haven't given up just yet!
