Playing Host on Valentine’s Weekend

February 18, 2014

Nick and I have lived in Texas for a little over two years now and one of the hardest parts for us has been being away from our family and friends. Finally, this weekend we were able to play hosts to some familiar faces from back home. It was so fun to show them around our little part of Texas! I know they loved getting away from the snowy East Coast and into our 70-degree weather. The theme of the weekend was definitely food. We ate so much, I’m really paying for it today!

We cooked our own Valentine’s Day dinner on Friday night, and it was definitely on par with a fancy restaurant! We had delicious steaks, mashed potatoes and parsnips, and this yummy salad (I’ll share the recipe later this week!)

Thank goodness for Courtney taking pictures, or else I’d have none!

Saturday we had brunch at Hubbell & Hudson in The Woodlands and walked around Market Street. We enjoyed the amazing weather on the patio at Bar Louie before getting ready for our dinner at The Pass & Provisions in Houston. The dinner is meant to be shared, so we tried quite a few dishes. My favorites were the Caesar Wedge Salad, Fried Chicken Ballotine, and the Cider Donut dessert. Definitely recommend checking it out! (We had everything listed below plus two pastas… but we ate them before we got pictures. Oops!)

The happy couples!

Sunday we finally introduced our friends to Tex Mex at Pappasitos. Many Houstonians say there are better places out there for Tex Mex but I haven’t tasted anything better yet! We enjoyed an afternoon of playing Loaded Questions with LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring in the background and cider/wine/beer to go around. I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard in a really long time!
It was so nice to spend time reminiscing and laughing and drinking this weekend. I can’t think of a better way to spend Valentine’s Day weekend. Only a few weeks until we get to visit D.C.!
