Our Disney Honeymoon: Day One

June 12, 2012

Lately Nick and I have been trying to decide what we want to do for our first anniversary. Every time I ask him what he’d like to do, he always says “Disney,” which is where we went on our awesome honeymoon. Honestly, I could probably go there every year. We didn’t even get to do half the stuff that we wanted!

I wanted to share with you all some of the highlights of our trip over this week. I apologize in advance- this is going to be a photo-heavy post!

We’ll start on July 24, the day after our wedding. We woke up in our cute little hotel room, got dressed, and left to have breakfast with my parents. While we ate, we opened all of the awesome gifts that we received– we couldn’t wait a week to open them! Afterwards, my parents dropped us off at GSP airport and we walked right through security (seriously, small airports are the way to go!) We ate a little lunch while we waited to board and made sure to take a picture to document the departure!

(Can you tell we were EXHAUSTED?? There were shenanigans after the
wedding that caused us to not be able to go to bed as soon as we
wanted… and no, not THOSE kind, you dirty person you! It involved my suitcase going missing…)

We arrived to our resort, Coronado Springs, at about 8 p.m. that evening. We enjoyed dinner in our plane clothes because our bags hadn’t arrived yet (they take care of all of that for you if you take the shuttle!) Oh. my. gah. It was DELICIOUS. I didn’t take any pictures, but we had the most AMAZING queso EVER. It had chorizo in it and was served with fresh tortillas. UH-mazing. I had shrimp tacos and unfortunately, I can’t remember what the hubs had. (P.S. we had a meal plan, so with each meal we got dessert. Disney knows me, man. They GET me.) With this meal, we each had dessert shooters. I had german chocolate cake… yum.

The next morning, we walked outside of our building and saw this:

The entire resort encircles a lake, complete with wildlife. (Yes, even gators. YIKES.)

As we ate our breakfast, this bird decided he wanted to hang out with us. We were okay with it.

After breakfast, we loaded up on the (air-conditioned) shuttle bus and took off to the Magic Kingdom!

When you see the castle for the first time, it’s truly magical! It really is the happiest place on Earth.

You have no idea how excited I was to ride the Buzz Lightyear ride. NO IDEA.
 Yay, we defeated Zerg!
Not gonna lie, I totally teared up during the parade. It was so neat to see all of the character with the happy music playing. We definitely knew we had arrived at Disney during this happy-fest.
After the parade we decided to cool off (because Orlando in July is NOT a good idea… take note.) We decided to have lunch in a nice, air-conditioned “quick service” restaurant called Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe.

As you eat, an animated dinosaur(?) thing sings to you. It’s pretty funny, he cracks lame jokes that still make you laugh.

I researched all of the places we ate while there and I am so glad that I did! Nick and I shared lunch, therefore using only one of our lunch credits. They gave us HALF of a rotisserie chicken, a huge thing of mashed potatoes, a 32 oz. drink, and a large brownie. Definitely more than enough!
 (I don’t know why I look so awkward….)
Nick was super excited to go on It’s A Small World….

(The little French dancers are my favorite!)

The ride stopped and we sat and looked at these
dolls for about 5 minutes. They remind me of the little girls in The
Shining. Except blonde. Nick was traumatized by the end of it.

I liked the ride much better before they changed it to include Jack Sparrow!

Our reactions while waiting for Space Mountain:

NEVER AGAIN WILL I RIDE SPACE MOUNTAIN.

The entire day was just filled with so many fun memories! Including eating pineapple ice cream and trying to not die from the heat….

That night we made reservations at one of the fanciest restaurants at Disney, Narcoossee’s. We got all doodled up and rode the boat across the lake to the restaurant.

Appetizers: crab cake and tomato salad
Main course: Steak with lobster tail and crab crusted flounder
Dessert: Almond cheesecake and fruit tart
We were absolutely stuffed! Keep in mind that all of this (lunch, snack, dinner, not including the appetizer) were all covered by the meal plan. I’ll repeat: IT’S SO WORTH THE MONEY.
Day two of the honeymoon coming tomorrow!
