One Book, One Movie, One Song… Forever (#blogeverydayinSept)

September 11, 2014

Today’s prompt for “Blog Everyday in September” (I just realized that’s a wildly uncreative name… sorry guys) is pretty simple: If you had to choose one book, one movie, and one song to listen to for the rest of your life, what would it be?

The book? Easy. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. It’s my favorite of the series for so many reasons. I love the dynamic between Ron/Hermione. I love the mystery of who the Half Blood Prince is through the whole book. It’s when horcruxes are introduced. Plus, the entire end with Dumbledore and Harry going to the cave to retrieve the locket, then Dumbledore’s subsequent death was probably one of the most heart wrenching things I’ve ever read. It’s been a while since I’ve read the book and I have a feeling that I need to go back and read it again. There will never be anything like Harry Potter. (Can you tell I’m obsessed?)

Honorable mentions: Basically any book from the Harry Potter series. Let’s be real.

The movie is a little more difficult. Although my favorite movie is “My Fair Lady,” I have to say that if I chose one movie to watch for the rest of my life, it would be “School of Rock.” I know, not the most high brow of choices. But I’ve seen that movie more times than I can count, can quote almost the entire thing and it still brings tears to my eyes at the end. Plus? It’s what introduced me to all of my favorite music. As a 9th grader, learning about classic rock bands was totally life changing. And I have Jack Black to thank for that.

Honorable mentions: Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring and Moulin Rouge! One of which sparked my interest in fantasy and sci-fi, the other turned me on to musicals.

Choosing one song to listen to for the rest of my life is almost impossible, since I have so many favorites. The one that’s coming to mind at the moment is “The Scientist” by Coldplay. It’s the song that I was listening to when I read the huge finale of Half Blood Prince for the first time, so needless to say I was crying in my room as I read it.

Honorable mentions: “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin because obviously that song is epic.
