My Favorite Things: JerryBuilt Homegrown Burgers

June 4, 2015

There are few things in this world that I love more than a good burger and fries. (Gilmore Girls? Maybe. Harry Potter? Yes.)

When I first started my job, everyone there was obsessed with this place nearby called JerryBuilt. I had no idea what to expect when I went for the first time with Meg back in 2012, but from the first bite, I was hooked. Juicy patties, fresh buns and delicious spicy fries? I thought I’d died and gone to Heaven. Add in the strawberry lemonade? I was DONE. It was my new favorite burger joint.

I’m happy to say that it’s been about two years since that first experience and my love for JerryBuilt has not faded one bit. In fact, it’s only grown stronger! Sarah can attest to the fact that I take everyone who visits The Woodlands there for a casual lunch or dinner before a concert. I’ve never visited the location on Holcombe downtown, but I know it has to be just as great.

Other than the fact that I’m completely obsessed with JerryBuilt, somewhere along the way Nick also became obsessed. I’m talking we probably go there 3 or 4 times a month, y’all. He is serious about his burgers.

I typically get the Jerry’s Burger, which is a classic burger with grilled onions and Ernie’s sauce on top. Deee-licious. I even get a little extra Ernie’s sauce to dip my fries in! (Thanks to Meg for getting me started on that one.) Nick gets the classic burger (plus mayo and ketchup) on wheat with regular fries. He’s an All-American guy, I tell ya.

I just recently had the chance to try their seasonal burger, which had bacon AND pulled pork on it, and their famous Mac and Cheese. I have to say, I expected it to be good, but it honestly felt like my taste buds were going on a ride. You can actually taste the cheese in the Mac and Cheese, which isn’t something you can say often, what with all of the processed stuff out there.

Not a meat-eater? No problem! They have portobello burgers and fantastic salads as well. I’ve had the Houston salad, which was amazing, and a friend got the Summer Berry Salad while we were eating on this particular night.

To top it all off, make sure you get one of their milkshakes. When I tell you that this Cookies and Cream milkshake is the best Cookies and Cream milkshake that I’ve ever had, I mean it. I barely had two sips of this particular shake because someone drank the rest!

But beyond all of the amazing food and drink, my absolute favorite thing about JerryBuilt is their mission. From the best organic produce to their dedication to sustainability and their commitment to serving the community, I really feel like I’m supporting an amazing company when I eat there.

What are your favorite burger combinations?
