I have to admit something. This is the first time I’ve written a blog post in 2016. And you know what? I’m okay with that.
The past few months have been totally and completely insane. Between traveling for the holidays, working, helping Nick get his fantastic movie blog up and going, and planning Thrive, I’ve pretty much focused my attention everywhere except my blog.
Honestly, there are so many reasons for it. I love planning Thrive, I’m a planner at heart. But I’m also a writer. And while so many bloggers are focusing on ways to monetize, I feel like I need to focus less on working with brands and more about focusing on myself and finding my voice again. I used to write really heartfelt posts, and while I try to do that with every post I create, sometimes it’s hard. Especially when you’re pressed for time.
That’s why when my girls at Moms Without Answers announced they were “quitting blogging” it really got me thinking. And when Michelle at Elle Talk announced the goals of her new blog, it was exactly the kick I needed.
I need to get back to where I was before numbers got so important. And while it is important for me to grow my following, I want to appreciate and recognize those that are with me now. I want to cultivate a community around my blog, focusing less on the numbers and more on supporting each other. I don’t want this blog to me a one-way street.
2016 is going to be a year of changes, and I want my blog to reflect that. Lots of people come up with a mantra for the year, and I’ve taken some time to reflect on one. I’ll be sharing that on the blog tomorrow.
For now, I want to do two things. #1, I want to thank you for being here and reading my post. #2, I want to ask you for a favor: will you take two seconds and just leave your name and blog link in the comments? Or if you aren’t a blogger, just say hello? I want to get a feel for who is lurking around here.
