Guilty Pleasures

February 12, 2012

I hope you all have had a nice and relaxing weekend. I know that I have!

Our little Susie got spayed on Friday and she’s been laying around sleeping all weekend. The poor little thing :( She’s being a trooper about it though, she even jumped off the bed to greet her daddy at the door hours after surgery!

I wanted to ask a favor of any lurkers out there reading the blog: I’m planning on having a giveaway once I get to 50 followers and we’re already at 42! The sooner we get there, the faster you can play!

Also, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers over the coming week. I’ve had a great opportunity come up and I’m struggling with my decision. I’ll appreciate any support you have!

Now, onto something more fun…

guilty pleasures!

I’ll be the first to admit that my guilty pleasures are a little different than most females my age. I know a lot of it has to do with my hubby’s influence in my life!

I am a self-proclaimed geek.

I find myself watching sci-fi dramas and obsessing over them. The backstories, the characters, little quirks, references to other shows… I LOVE it!

Here are some of my favorites:

Battlestar Galactica
Before I watched BSG, I laughed at the mention of it (especially the legendary exchange between Dwight and Jim on The Office). I had no idea what it was about. But after watching the mini-series that started off the series, I was hooked. There are so many twists and turns in this show that you can’t stop watching. Nick and I spent days watching this show, episode after episode. We’d start watching at 11 am and keep watching until 2 or 3 am the next morning! The strong female characters on this show are among some of the best ever. BSG even ranks among the top 100 tv shows of all time! I’d recommend this for anyone who enjoys shows like 24.
Firefly
Although the show only lasted one season, it was a great space opera, much like BSG. The dynamics between the characters are awesome, and even though the show was cancelled before it could have a proper ending, a movie called Serenity was used to tie the loose ends. This futuristic civilization thrives with Chinese influence, making for some very interesting combinations with its Old West characters.
Dollhouse
I just finished watching this show today, and wow! I definitely cried at the end. This show is based in the present day around something called a ‘dollhouse’ where clients (usually wealthy) can rent out “dolls” for hire, whether it be for romance, violence, or a range of different desires. The first couple of episodes can be difficult to deal with, as it takes on a sort of “scenario of the week” feel, but after a while the story really picks up and hits hard! Plus, I sort of have a crush on Tahmoh Penniket who also plays on BSG (top left corner on this picture, top right on BSG picture).
Once I start fan-girling over a show like this, I cannot be stopped! I would absolutely love to go to Dragon*Con in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend to meet some of these actors.
Judge me all you want. But don’t knock it til you try it!
All of these shows can be found on Netflix Instant Stream.
Let me know if you watch any of them!
