That Time I Had The Best Weekend of All Time

May 28, 2013

To some (or many) of you, this post might be confusing. Or weird. Or something.

Can you spot on my sidebar where I say “treading the line of geek and chic?” Well, here’s where we go on that geek side. See, it’s always been on my unwritten bucket list that one day, I want to go to a convention. One day, I’d love to go to ComicCon in San Diego (the con of all cons) but I know that’s pretty unlikely. So, I found the perfect one and my lovely husband purchased tickets for us for Christmas.

I’ve told you guys before about my guilty pleasures, especially my love of science fiction tv shows. I first watched Battlestar Galactica in early 2010, after Nick bought the entire series after seeing only the pilot episode. Yes, you read that right. We bought an entire series after my husband had only seen three hours of the show. It was well worth it. We marathon-watched this show like there was no tomorrow. I’m pretty sure that we watched it for 12 hours or more some days. I’m not kidding, y’all. We were sucked in.

It’s because this isn’t just some show about people in space. It’s a drama. You become attached to the characters and what they are going through. There are twists and turns and the plot very much reflected what was going on in the world at the time it aired (post-9/11 America but in a subtle way.) Needless to say, we became obsessed. We shared it with so many friends and loved to watch their reactions as they learned the big reveals in the show. It’s easily my favorite show of all time.

Because of that, I’ve been dying to go to a “con” a.k.a. nerd convention. Dragon*Con in Atlanta was fairly close (3 hrs.) to where I lived in SC so I had wanted to go but the ticket prices were just a little high at the time. I found out late last year that because the show was having it’s ten year anniversary and the old series (that the new one is based on) was having it’s 30 year anniversary, they were going to have a reunion of sorts, with actors from both series coming together. And what do you know? OH, it’s in Houston?? How convenient!!

So… we went. And it was glorious. I’ll spare you all of the silly stories and things I learned, since most of you probably aren’t familiar with the show (BUT SHOULD BE. NETFLIX IT NOW.)

I walked into the room and spotted all the actors and actually had a mini-panic attack. I’m not exaggerating.
I don’t put nearly enough photos of my lovely husband on this blog here. I love you!
1. Our new friend, Leah Cairns (Racetrack.) 2. A bear hug from Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama). 3. Nicki Clyne (Cally). 4. The boys at their panel. 5. Michael Hogan (Col. Tigh) 6. The girls at their panel. 7. Michael Trucco… yum. (Sam Anders) 8. Kate Vernon (Ellen Tigh) 9. Tahmoh Penikett (Helo)
Not only did we have an amazing time meeting the actors on the show, we also met some pretty amazing friends. You guys. I didn’t realize that it was possibly to get such a friend crush on a couple so quickly, but these people were essentially the “Pittsburgh Nick and Whit” as we called them. The similarities were endless. Not going to lie, I may be planning our next vacation together already. (If you guys see this, don’t be creeped out, k?)
I thank the gods that we had Monday off because I might have died if I had to work today. It was such a whirlwind of a weekend but something I won’t soon forget.(and I have to leave you with this picture because, well…..)

What are some of your favorite tv shows?
Would you ever go to a convention to meet the actors?
