Greetings from South Carolina! Nick and I are visiting family currently and are soaking in the cold weather (is that even a thing?) Wherever you are, we hope you had a fantastic holiday.
2014 has been a particularly exciting year here at The Observant Turtle. I started the new year off with a brand new design and direction for the blog and things continued to evolve throughout the year. I wanted to recap things for those of you that may be new around here, and highlight some of my favorite and post popular posts for those that have been around for a while!
January: I posted about my resolutions for 2014. Did I keep up with them? Check back on the blog later this week to find out! I also wrote a love letter to The Pioneer Woman to tell her how much I love her recipes. Later that month, I shared my second installment of Five Blogs You Should Follow. We hosted our first Houston Blogger Social Club meetup of the year and I showed off my favorite winter outfit. I closed out the month with “a day in the life” post.
February: I love sharing posts with little quirky things about myself, so I compiled a list and it turns out that a bunch of y’all felt the same way! I ventured down to Clear Lake and spent a day with one of my blogger besties Sarah. She snapped some pics of one of my favorite shirts ever. I continued my tradition of trying new recipes and discovered one of the best turkey sloppy joe recipes! There was a rash of “If We Met For Brunch” posts going around, so I shared my take on the topic.
March: Nick and I took our first vacation as a married couple in March (besides our honeymoon) and absolutely fell in love with DC. I shared stories about going to the Capitol building and checking out the museums, but my favorite part was the food in DC. So many great choices!
April: I initially posted in the beginning of the month that I was no longer going to be blogging… well, that definitely did not happen. TopGolf opened their North Houston location and I had the opportunity to check it out before the grand opening! And although How I Met Your Mother’s series finale was in March, it took me nearly four weeks to compose my thoughts about the finale. After starting the month by “quitting” blogging, I finished the month with my most popular post to date, all about my love for Langford Market.
May: Somehow I only blogged once in May? It was the one year anniversary since we attended Galacticon, so I reflected on why I still believe Battlestar Galactica is one of the best TV shows of all time.
June: I received my first StitchFix in June and had the best time trying on everything! The Houston Blogger Social Club had our meetup at TopGolf and I finally got comfortable with swinging a golf club. We moved out of our apartment of almost two years and moved into a house (with a garage and a backyard!) I compiled a list of grocery store rules that people don’t seem to understand.
July: In July I continued my foray into fashion blogging and shared my personal style philosophy. This month was particularly difficult as far as body image goes, and I shared some thoughts on body image and my sorority experience. But somehow through all of the body image stuff, I started to realize that the blog was turning into a fashion blog. We also celebrated our third wedding anniversary.
August: Some pretty big things happened in August: I became a Taylor Swift fan (and have become obsessed ever since…) I realized that the blog world was in a slump and promised to blog every day in September. The biggest thing of all? Nick and I started our movie project, aptly named “Nick and Whit’s Infinite Playlist.”
September: Since I blogged every day in September, I won’t share each post. Here are some of my most popular posts from the month: Reintroducing Whitney, What Meg O. Taught Me (My Daily Makeup Routine), Why I Love eMeals and Paleo vs. Clean Eating. Nick and I went on our second vacation to Newport Beach, California, which was pretty amazing.
October: I was on a roll in October and made quite a few delicious recipes that were new to me, including this Creamy Tomato Pasta. We celebrated Sarah’s little bun in the oven with a baby shower brunch at Tiny Boxwoods. I talked about my relationship with Nick and ways to improve our relationship each day. We even had some family photos taken for our Christmas card. And the biggest announcement in October? Thrive Blog Conference. Will you be there?
November: Again with the recipes, I discovered the potato salad recipe. I shared the story of my first date with Nick. I had the pleasure of getting together with some fellow Houston bloggers for a holiday fashion preview at Market Street in The Woodlands.
December: Geek gift guides abound in December with one focused on geek guys and one focused on geek girls. (And some of those gifts were under my tree this holiday!) I also talked about our holiday traditions as a couple.
